Lenovo ThinkPad X300

Lenovo ThinkPad X300

It may only be April, but the Lenovo ThinkPad X300 is already such as a strong contender for the notebook from the year 2008, and I can not say that lightly. It’s a bit coincidental that the review of the ThinkPad X300 comes so soon after Sony VAIO VGN-TZ31MN, what to see, as many of its main competitor, albeit in the form of higher TZ31VN spec. I’m not entirely convinced that the X300 really plays in the same range as the Sony TZ series although, in fact, the latter Lenovo has a lot more in common with the larger Sony, but no less stylish SZ series notebooks, as the VAIO VGN-SZ61VN.

Samsung R700 Review

Samsung R700

Although we often wishes to extol the virtues of an expensive ultra-portable notebooks, which many people actually want to be large, attractive but affordable alternative to a full desktop computer. It is this desire after all, not Sleek Sony TZ line that has driven the growth of the notebook market and decline in the desktop market and Samsung R700 (model no. NP-R700-A003UK) is a perfect example of that.  Trade around £ 560 for a sign that does not claim to do anything particularly special. It can not harp on a high-resolution screen or bleeding edge of safety and are not equipped with Blu-ray drive, but has an HDMI output and as a whole is well put together and very well-balanced machine at a price almost too good to resist.

Acer Ferrari 1100

Acer Ferrari 1100

Acer using the latest offer brand is Ferrari 1100, a 12.1in laptop that uses AMD mobile platform and does not sell to an insignificant £ 1400 It uses the same basic chassis as the far more mundane Acer TravelMate 6292, which reviewed in July last year, but adds a fair dose of style and panache.  Probably the best part of the notebook is its lid. Finished in conjunction with carbon fibers and smooth black plastic proudly with the logo of Ferrari sitting in the middle, it really looks and feels part of it. Inside is perhaps a little less coordinated, but nonetheless still attractive. Not shiny black plastic bezel around the draws, that an awful lot of dust and that is still around the keyboard, joined by more smooth black plastic on the sides and textured touchpad. A bright red backlit power button adds to the taste of Ferrari, as well as another Ferrari logo and the words, it is backlit in the upper right corner.
